Eduardo Lima Radio LAC Interview

At the end of April, LonAgro Country Manager Eduardo Lima was invited by Radio LAC to share LonAgro’s vision for the Angolan agricultural sector on their weekly program; “Hora da Amcham Angola” hosted by journalist Joel Costa.

In the interview Eduardo emphasised that the time has come to look at the modernization of the sector, through the professionalization of agriculture associated with the training of young farmers. He went on to explain that Africa is currently facing massive hurdles in the agricultural sector; which is one of the most important sectors of the economy, due to the prevalence of subsistence agriculture.

As a solution to this, Eduardo described how mechanization of agriculture to combat hunger and poverty is fundamental and a priority. He explained that Angola has the water potential that allows intensive agriculture throughout the year, but the country must modernize its agricultural practices. Angola has 35 million hectares of arable land and a cultivated area of five million hectares, plus an extra seven million hectares of irrigable land, half of which still exploited using inefficient traditional methods!
